About SkillsUSA/Davies
SkillsUSA/Davies is a school chapter of the RI State Association of SkillsUSA, a national organization serving more then 275,000 high school and college students and professional members who are enrolled in training programs in technical, skilled, and serve occupations, including health occupations.
SkillsUSA prepares America's high performance workers. It provides quality education experiences for students in leadership, teamwork, citizenships and character development. It builds and reinforces self-confidence, work attitudes and communication skills. It emphasizes total quality at work, high ethical standards, superior work skills, life-long education and pride in dignity of work. SkillsUSA also promotes understanding of the free enterprise system and involvement in community service activities.
Competitions and Leadership Training
SkillsUSA/Davies programs include local competitions in which students demonstrate occupational and leadership skills. During the annual school competitions, all students are eligible to compete in over 39 occupational and leadership skills areas. The top three students in each contest area proceed to join more than 1,000 students to compete in the annual SkillsUSA/RI state conference and championships. Gold medal winning students then move on to join over 4,000 students at the National Leadership and Skills Conference and compete for national honors. Students are also encouraged to participate in school and state leadership training programs. Annually, a student is elected to represent Davies as a state officer and that student participates in National Leadership and Training programs at the NLSC and the Washington Leadership Training Institute.
RI State Leadership and Skills Conference
The State Leadership and Skills Conference, featuring the SkillsUSA/RI championships, is the annual showcase for students enrolled in vocational, technical and health education. In addition to the student and teacher participants, business and industry play a great role in promoting the fundamental principles of vocational education.
For contest requirements and technical standards, please refer to the latest edition of our publication, "Contest Requirements and Technical Standards." The publication is usually mailed to advisors, as wells as available on-line, in the month prior to states.
