Waterfire: Salute to RI Educators, Honoring Davies' District Teacher of the Year, Lyle Nesse
RIDE will honor Rhode Island educators for their outstanding service and dedication to students and to the profession at “WaterFire: A Salute to Rhode Island Educators” on Saturday, September 30, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Memorial Park (at the corner of North Main Street and College Street). Registration begins at 2:30 p.m. and the reception will begin at 3:00 p.m. The awards ceremony begins at 5:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend the celebration to support our Rhode Island educators. This family-oriented event will include a catered reception by RI Career and Technical culinary schools, an awards ceremony and a torch procession featuring the honored educators. This includes Davies' District Teacher of the Year, Mr. Lyle Nesse.

PrepareRI Graduation - Summer 2023
Congratulations to the PrepareRI Summer Internship Class of 2023! Throughout 7-weeks this summer, PrepareRI graduates have gained work-based learning experiences working with some of Rhode Island's biggest companies. This summer, we placed 343 rising high school seniors in paid internships with 85 employer partners.

Free and Reduced Price School Meals
Children need healthy meals to learn. Wm. M. Davies, Jr. Career & Technical High School offers healthy meals every school day. Breakfast costs $1.50; lunch costs $2.50. Your children may qualify for free meals or for reduced price meals. Reduced price is $.30 for breakfast and $.40 for lunch. This packet includes an application for free or reduced price meal benefits, and a set of detailed instructions.

Partner Appreciation Reception and Intent-to-Hire Signing
On May 31, 2023, Davies' Office of Workforce Development hosted a Partner Appreciation Reception with an Intent-to-hire signing ceremony. At the event, five industry partners announced their intent-to-hire 8 students from the Class of 2023. Mrs. Votto, Supervisor for Career and Technical Education also announced that Davies students have earned 41,787 hours of work-based learning (as of the 5/31/23 event.) 86% of the Class of 2023 participated in off-site work-based learning this year with the help of 180 industry partners. Davies would like to our industry partners, faculty, parents/guardians, and staff who helped with this achievement.

The DCCC is a promise made to students, faculty, staff, and the entire Davies community that we are open and willing to work on issues related to equity and justice. This compact sets a standard of treatment for all community members, holding us all to ideals that will inform how staff are trained and what is expected of students. Seal of Biliteracy 2023
On Thursday May 25, 2023, Davies celebrated the achievement of 22 students that qualified for either silver or gold seals on their diplomas with a beautiful breakfast. The students took the test in 3 different languages, and students are receiving seals identifying their literacy in two languages. Congratulations to our recipients, and thank you to Hospitality Careers for breakfast with exceptional service.

National Honor Society 2023
The National Honor Society was formed in 1921. Over one million students are estimated to participate in the National Honor Society. Since 1946, the National Honor Society has given out more than $15 million in scholarship awards. Students who join Davies National Honor Society have a 3.75 GPA or higher, show leadership qualities, integrity, and are required to serve 20 service hours helping with different projects and Davies students far exceed those hours.

SkillsUSA Rhode Island 2023 State Championship Results
Davies is proud to announce that this year our students brought home 11 Gold, 12 Silver, and 9 Bronze medals for a total of 32 medals. This year, 86 students participated in 27 competitions. The 11 Gold medal winners will go on to Nationals in June to represent the state of Rhode Island. All of our SkillsUSA competitors will be honored at the upcoming student-run talent show on May 5 at 5pm in Davies' Cafetorium.

RIDE Announces Delegates for 2023 National Youth Science Camp
“We are thrilled to have these extremely talented students representing Rhode Island on a national stage,” said Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green. “These young women are destined to be future leaders in STEAM, and we cannot wait to hear of their success in this competitive science program. They are shining examples of what our kids can achieve with the right support and guidance.” The students, Taina Marigny of Providence and Mia Schenenga of East Greenwich, are both seniors graduating from their high schools this June.

National Honor Society Nominations
Congratulations to the 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students that received a letter from the National Honor Society for the academic year 2022-2023. These students met the initial criteria of a 3.75 cumulative GPA after quarter 1. The informational meeting will be on December 20th, 2022 at 2:30 pm in the Lecture Hall.
