Class of 2021 - Top 10 Students

Hands-on learning is an important part of career and technical education. When schools shut down due to the pandemic, it left administrators with hard decisions on how to continue ensuring their students are industry certified. Thankfully, the ocean state's own William M. Davies, Jr. Career and Technical High School was able to return for the school year 2020-2021 with a hybrid 50% in-person model. This blend of Zoom synchronous days, 2 in-person learning days, and asynchronous or independent study days enabled students at Davies to keep up with their learning timeline and arrive at the end of the year graduation celebration prepared to become productive participants in Rhode Island's workforce.

On Wednesday, May 26, 2021, Davies held its first in-person event in 14 months, Senior Awards Night. Parents, guardians, faculty, and some members of the Class of 2021 joined guidance and administration in the socially distant cafeteria as names were called out over the speakers, the applause was heard, and awards were collected. Many students were celebrated in addition to the top prize of Valedictorian and Salutatorian. Abigail Nason, a Graphics & Interactive Media student ranked #5 in her class was voted by the faculty to be an exceptional student who has made a great impact on the school community and named Davies' 2021 Student of the Year. Nason is an active member of Davies SkillsUSA Chapter, an elected member of the SkillsUSA RI State Team, and previously served as President. and Davies Student Council. Most recently, Nason competed in SkillsUSA 2021 state competition and received a silver medal in advertising design. Nason is set to attend Drexel University in Philadelphia, majoring in the Music Industry with a concentration in the music business.

The top 10 students of Davies' Class of 2021 are exceptionally dedicated students who persevered through a difficult year with determination. They all earned over a 4.0 GPA and will graduate with not only their Rhode Island high school diploma but several certifications in each of their fields on June 15th when graduation occurs on the school's softball field.
