Leigh Butterworth named Davies' District Teacher of the Year (SY21-22)

Davies' SY21-22 District Teacher of the Year Leigh Butterworth

On May 28 in Gaskin Memorial Gymnasium, Davies’ Health and Physical Education Teacher, Leigh Butterworth, was named the District Teacher of the Year (DTOY) for the school year 2021-2022. Interim Director David Champagne stated “You, unanimously were selected for District Teacher of the Year” while handing her flowers.

Butterworth, along with other District Teachers of the Year, will be honored in October at a special WaterFire celebration in downtown Providence. The annual event is known as "A Salute to Rhode Island Educators."

Outstanding faculty are selected each spring when teachers from across Rhode Island are chosen to represent their local education agencies (LEAs). In addition to the opportunity to take part in WaterFire, teachers of the year can also participate in leadership professional development, collaborate with District Teachers of the Year from across the state, and can apply to represent all of Rhode Island educators as the Rhode Island Teacher of the Year.

Please join us at WaterFire in October to celebrate Mrs. Butterworth, who will be a torch-bearer, and to honor all Rhode Island educators.
