Tanya Cooper Named Athlete of the Week
May 4, 2017
Congratulations to sophomore Tanya Cooper for being named the Pawtucket Times' Athlete of the Week! This week, Tanya picked up her 100th strikeout in only eight games.
Via the Pawtucket Times:
No other athlete in the Blackstone Valley had a better week than Davies sophomore hurler Tanya Cooper, who is the Spumoni's Italian Seafood Restaurant Times' Athlete of the Week. The Patriot shut out Juanita Sanchez, struck out 13 batters and hit a home run in a win against Middletown, and then mowed down 14 Mt. Hope batters and also had three hits in a 12-2 victory Saturday.
Earlier in the season, coach Scott Cooper (also Tanya Cooper's uncle) remarked to the Pawtucket Times: "Honestly, I didn't think we'd win a game this year because we're so young. The girls have persevered; winning two in a row? Our goals have already been met. After this, everything is gravy."
Today, the team currently has a league record of 5-4.
The Patriots play next this Saturday, May 6, when they take on Narragansett High at Davies. Next week, they battle North Smithfield in an away game on Tuesday, May 9, before returning home to take on Ponaganset High School at Davies on 5/11.
Congratulations to Tanya and the fastpitch team for an exciting season so far!
