On June 4th, Mr. Johnson’s 9th-grade World History class had the honor of welcoming a very special guest: David Spitzman, the son of Holocaust survivors, joined by Dr. Laura Auketayeva and Lexi Kutenplon-Rayess from the Sandra Bornstein Holocaust Education Center.
Mr. Spitzman shared the moving story of his parents' survival during the Holocaust, connecting personal history with a powerful message about the dangers of bigotry and the importance of building a more peaceful, tolerant world.
Following his presentation, our guests stayed for an extended Q&A session, where students asked thoughtful questions about Mr. Spitzman’s family history, his role as a Holocaust educator, and related themes they’ve been exploring in class.
Dr. Auketayeva also encouraged students to apply for the Leadership Institute for Teens — a program focused on youth leadership, genocide education, and human rights advocacy.
Thank you to our guests for such a meaningful visit, and to Mr. Johnson for creating this opportunity for our students to engage with living history.
