Presidential Scholar Honors Teacher for Lasting Impact
Posted Date: 10/17/25 (2:00 PM)
When Davies graduate Haadiyah Folarin (Health Careers, Class of 2025) was named one of the nation’s U.S. Presidential Scholars, she was asked to select one teacher who had most inspired and supported her academic journey. Haadiyah chose Mrs. Cara Mathers, recognizing her as her most influential teacher — a distinction that reflects both academic excellence and the meaningful connections built at Davies.
Haadiyah wrote, "Mrs. Mathers has equipped me with the essential tools and values, which I will carry into my future endeavors. Overall, having her in my life has enhanced my writing skills and contributed to my personal growth. Through Mrs. Mathers, I am a more confident and compassionate individual."
Mrs. Mathers, who is entering her 14th year at Davies and also served as Haadiyah’s National Honor Society Advisor for three years, was deeply honored by the recognition. “It’s an honor I don’t take lightly,” she shared. “During the application process, candidates are asked to choose one teacher who has inspired them and contributed most to their success, and Haadiyah chose me.”
As part of this national honor, Mrs. Mathers received a letter of recognition from the U.S. Department of Education, acknowledging her contribution to Haadiyah’s achievements and the lasting impact of her teaching.
