🌟 Beyond the Kitchen: Prioritizing Total Well-Being in Hospitality Careers
The Davies community recognizes that true professional success is built upon a foundation of total well-being—mental, emotional, and physical health. This is particularly vital for students entering demanding fields like Hospitality.
On Thursday, December 4th, our Hospitality students welcomed Julianna Fonseca, the successful owner of Geoff’s Superlative Sandwiches in Providence, RI. While Julianna has achieved significant business success and holds a Law degree from Roger Williams University, she chose to focus her talk on something profoundly personal: her journey and challenges with mental health.
Instead of discussing recipes or balance sheets, Julianna shared how she has actively and resiliently managed her mental health conditions from her adolescence into her adult years.
Why This Matters for Hospitality Students:
The hospitality industry is fast-paced, high-pressure, and highly demanding. Learning to manage stress and prioritizing mental and emotional health is just as crucial as mastering technical skills. This presentation served as a vital reminder that:- Self-Care is Career Care: Wellness is not a luxury; it’s a non-negotiable component of sustained professional success.
- Vulnerability is Strength: Sharing personal journeys helps destigmatize mental health challenges and fosters a supportive community.
